Former Nanook Dean Fedorchuk Accepts Head Coaching Position in Europe

Former Nanook Player Dean Fedorchuk has accepted the position as Head Coach for the Odense Bulldogs of the Denmark Elite League. Fedorchuk had recently completed his second season as a player with Odense.

Fedorchuk explains how the position became available.“The team approached me about being the Director of Player Development- as an Assistant Coach/Player position with club. I reviewed the status of the club and made a proposal and presentation to management. They were impressed with what they read, and after some more discussion the position of Head Coach was offered.”

"Ever since Dean came here two years ago, we have known that this relationship could develop into something more. From day one, he has shown the desire to build something new as a player, and this possibility has always been at the back of our minds”, explains General Manager, Ole Andersen about the appointment.

Fedorchuk was a 3 time Nanook MVP, and was also selected as an All American and Hobey Baker Finalist for the College Hockey Player of the Year. Upon completion of his collegiate career at University of Alaska Fairbanks, Fedorchuk has played professionally for 14 years, including 7 years in Denmark. Over the 7 years in Denmark he has been a part of a League Championship in 2006, as well as several individual awards including Playoff MVP, All League Team, and 4 Time Leading Goal Scorer.

“It was a difficult decision to make, but I feel I have been preparing for this challenge for many years. I have been blessed to have played for many of the best coaches at every level, Don Lucia at UAF; Ken Hitchcock, Jim Playfair, and Claude Noel – all in the NHL; and 4 years for my Slovakian Coach in Germany, who is involved with the Slovak National Program. The summers in Alaska have basically been a Coaching Internship under Nanook Coaches Guy Gadowsky and Tavis MacMillan where they allowed me to have a desk in the coaches office during the summer, and learn from them.”

According to GM Andersen, Fedorchuk’s coaching experience was not a factor. “Even though he has not previously held the full responsibility, we are convinced that with his leadership in the dressing room along with all his other qualities, he is a coaching profile of the future.”
